Crozer Health’s trauma surgery department recently earned its second consecutive three-year accreditation under the impressive leadership of M. Hassan Budeir, MD, and Program Director Sandra Durgin, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN. The Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) board notified the team of its successful survey, indicating accreditation for the maximum period of three years.

The site surveyors were especially impressed with Crozer Health’s experienced advanced practitioners, and the program’s commitment to trauma education. They also noted the excellent collaboration between the program’s performance improvement coordinators and the registrars.

According to Sandy and Budeir, having this accreditation allows Crozer Health to elevate the program in many ways, including:

  • Fully developing and implementing a firearm injury prevention effort in their local community.
  • Conducting more trauma research to do their part in advancing the profession.
  • Expanding outreach to more ambulance organizations.
  • Improving trauma outcomes by developing additional protocols using evidence-based research.
  • Expanding their injury prevention efforts.

In addition to Sandy and Budeir, Crozer Health acknowledges the entire trauma surgery team for making the program a success: surgeons Drs. Amber Batool, Wassim Habre, James Jeng and Asanthi Ratnasekera; nurse practitioners Jennifer Collins, Susan Galiczynski, Jacqueline Kinsey, Sharon Nichols, Christine Powel and Stephen Sparks; and teammates Danielle Gritenas Decker, Jennifer O’Berg, Margie Finocchiaro, John Fink, Stephanie Alexander, Betty Ann Kroh and Loreen Evans.
