Norwalk Community Hospital hosted a grand opening ceremony to unveil a first responder’s lounge on Jan. 18, 2019.  The purpose of the lounge is to give first responders a place to relax after bringing a patient into the emergency department.

The lounge serves firefighters, paramedics, police officers and EMTs who bring patients in the hospital and are waiting to respond to another call. Prior to the lounge, first responders would need to wait outside the ED without having a chance to rest.

The new lounge provides first responders with a refrigerator to chill their refreshments and lunch, chairs and a desk to comfortably fill out paperwork and a TV in case they would like to unwind and clear their mind before responding to their next call.

“We are proud to give back to those who risk their lives every day to serve our community,” said Dhaiwat Kothari, hospital administrator. “As a community hospital, providing high-quality care and services to the public is our top priority, so we are honored to provide this lounge to our first responders who share the same goal.”
