  • Roger Williams Medical Center Cancer Program received the Commission on Cancer (COC) reaccreditation with 7 commendations and 0 deficiencies.
  • Dr. Nabil Toubia was named a Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), establishing him as one of a select few in the State of Rhode Island with this designation.   
  • Dr. Joseph Espat, MS, FACS, Chairman of Surgery, co-author of a publication on gastrointestinal stromal tumors in JAMA Oncology published by the American Medical Association.
  • Dr. Abdul Saied Calvino, a board-certified surgical oncologist with Roger Williams Medical Center, is the recipient of the 2018 Carol Friedman Award, given annually to recognize outstanding achievement in cancer care. The honorees are chosen by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Comprehensive Cancer Control Branch.
  • Roger Williams Medical Center received Silver Recognition from the National Hospital Organ Donation for the efforts made to increase the number of organs, eye and tissue donors.
  • September 2018, Diane D’Ambra, RN, MS, was recognized for nursing excellence in Rhode Island Monthly.  Diane was named Clinical Nurse Educator of the Year
  • August 2018, successful The Joint Commission survey for the Behavioral Health Opioid Treatment Program.
  • August 2018, successful AABB survey for the Blood Bank resulting in zero findings.
  • May 2018, Sara Sgro, RN was honored at the Rhode Island State House for the Hospital Association of Rhode Island’s “Hospital Hero:  Award for Excellence in Hospital Care.
  • 2018 Dr. R. James Koness, Director of the Breast Health Program at the Roger Williams’ Cancer Center was named Educator fo the Year in Clinical Sciences by Boston University School of Medicine.
  • April 2018 - Successful inspection by the Center for Health Facilities Regulation, Radiation Control Program resulting in no violations or unsafe conditions.
  • 2017 Employee of the Year, Sara Sgro, RN, was announced.  Sara is a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room and has been with the organization since 1980.
  • The Hematology/Oncology Division at Roger William Medical Center been re-certified by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI), a core national program implemented by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).  To receive re-certification, an Oncology practice evaluated on 80 quality metrics in both general and disease-specific modules. The program now certified through April 2020.
  • Dr. Elaine Jones received the Kenneth M. Viste Jr. MD Patient Advocate of the Year Award.

  • September 2019 Dr. Abdul Saied Calvino, a member of the surgical oncology team and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the BU School of Medicine, received the distinguished Director’s Award from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
  • August 2019 Successful inspection by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) resulting in a 2-year accreditation following an unannounced inspection. 
  • 2019 CharterCARE 17 Physicians were named as the RI Monthly Top Doctors
  • 2018 CharterCARE Home Health Services earned Strategic Healthcare Programs’ Best Superior Performer patient satisfaction award
  • CharterCARE Provider Group of RI, LLC, the independent practice association affiliated with CharterCARE Health Partners, was awarded Elite Status on the America’s Physician Group (APG) 2018 Standards of Excellence survey for the third year in a row.

  • 2020 Get with the Guidelines Gold Achievement Award for Stroke Care by the AHA and ASA
  • Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Heart of Attach for 3 Years in a Row (2018-2020)
  • October 2019 Dr. Walter Hollinger was honored by the Rhode Island Free Clinic Physician of the Year Award. Also, he received a citation from the Providence Mayor for his efforts.
  • September 2019 the Our Lady of Fatima Laboratory was recognized by Governor Raimondo for 40 years of blood drive support, estimating 16,536 people or lives were helped/saved. 
  • July 2019 Successful Joint Commission certification for Disease Specific Care for Spine Surgery.
  • Our Lady of Fatima received the Get with the Guidelines Stroke Gold for 2019.
  • Dr. Richard Lim was recently awarded as being best 40 Under 40 by Providence Business News.
  • Dr. John Leimert, Chief of the Division of Pediatrics, was recently presented with the Best In Medicine award from the American Health Council representing Rhode Island in the field of general pediatrics.
  • Dr. John Leimert, Chief of the Division of Pediatrics, was recently presented with the Preceptor of the Year award from the Physician Assistant students at the Tufts School of Medicine.
  • November 2018 St. Joseph Health Center was recently awarded the PCMH accreditation for its Adult Primary Care Clinic.
  • October 2018, St. Joseph Health Center have been recognized as Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. 
  • September 2018, Theodore Sarrazin, RN, was recognized for nursing excellence in Rhode Island Monthly.  Theodore was named Clinical Practice Nurse of the Year.
  • St. Joseph Health Center was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Rhode Island Department of Health to expand its asthma outreach and education program.
  • July 2018, Fatima Hospital’s Spine Program was cited by The Joint Commission as a Best Practice Resource and welcomed the clinical leadership team from Trinity Health/St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. to share best practices.
  • 2018 Fatima Hospital was recognized by The New England QIN-QIO, administered by Healthcentric Advisors, regarding the significant improvements in readmission rate(s).
  • 2018 Betty Sadaniantz, DNP, RN, was elected President of the Rhode Island Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education.  Betty is the Dean of the St. Joseph School of Nursing. 
  • 2018 Michael Garrity, DNP, MSN, RN, nursing educator at Our Lady of Fatima, has been named President-Elect of Rhode Island State Nurses Association (RISNA). 
  • 2018 Prospect Medical Holdings singled Fatima Hospital out as one of the top performing hospitals in the health care system for patient satisfaction.
  • 2018 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With The Guidelines” Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award
  • June 2018, Kickoff to introduce a national recognition program for extraordinary nursing staff, The DAISY Award
